Last night, at the invitation of interviewer Suzanne Lang, two other local authors, Armando Garcia Davila and Carrie Cader Ludtke and I were interviewed (KOWS—really—radio 107.3 FM in Occidental, California) for an event to be held tonight, Monday October 13, 2014: Dining with the Authors in Santa Rosa. As soon as I get the link, I’ll post it. I felt honored to be invited for the program Lit Radio. Meeting other authors is always helpful as is getting my name/books “out there.” I’ve done radio interviews before and I was prepared for this one.

I felt honored to be invited for the interview. Meeting other authors is always helpful personally as is getting my name/books “out there.”

During the interview, the three of us discussed our process, what we do during our day, what made us jump into writing, and then what nudged us to completing a project, pitching it, and following our path to publication. I thought of all years I squandered with half-baked ideas, stories never completed, and great ideas I didn’t get down on paper.

Was it the Franklin-Covey method of structuring goals? Was it projections of my childhood dreams that I kept having to re-frame for a different age? Was it just plain Norwegian stubbornness?

Probably all of the above. Responsible are the bits of lessons learned from the past, glimpses of dreams of the future and a sound work ethic that has held me in good stead for all my life. I haven’t won all my battles, but when I “lost” I gained a life lesson that would be sewn into the fabric of who I am. If I don’t do it, it’s a guaranteed loss.

The Nike tagline says it all, “Just Do It.”
